Food for Thought

Mark and I have been cooking more and eating out less here lately, much to the appreciation of our wallets and our waistlines. Along with this, we decided a couple months ago to "train" for the Race for the Cure 5K that is on October 20. By train, I mean that we try to run together 2-3 times per week, with the goal of getting up to a steady three mile run with no walk breaks. This was a lofty goal for me, seeing as how i have never in my life been a runner. Mark tricked me into believing this was also quite the feat for him. That is until he informed me last week that he is now training for a half marathon because a puny 5K is just too easy for him. We still go running together, but he laps me around the block now. So much for completing that 5K together...

Anyways, we've been cooking up all kinds of tasty new meals, like these kabobs we made a few weeks back. As you can tell by my stunning attire, this was just after one of our runs. The veggies on those skewers were homegrown by some of my parents' neighbors. This could be the best thing we've eaten so far. Tonight we're making turkey burgers and hitting up Mark's neighborhood for our trek.

At the Car Wash

This weekend was the first in about seven weekends that I was not out of town for at least part of the time. I celebrated by going to bed before midnight every night and sleeping as late as I could, which ended up being until about 8:00. Is it sad that almost feels late to me now?

Saturday Mark and I did what we've been talking about doing all summer - washed my car. This was no easy car wash. This was two hours of picking an entire summer's worth of bugs off the bumper, vacuuming the dirt from endless trips to Muenster out of the carpet, waxing the outside until it shined and scrubbing the tires and windows. The results are that my car looks better than I've ever seen it. Mark's such a trooper, he even volunteered to wash it without my help. It makes him look like Boyfriend of the Year, but I think it also speaks to how very dirty my car really was. I don't have any before pictures, but here it is after 2 hours of sweat and labor (yes sweat, it had to be at least 95 degrees outside).

Saturday night we hit up my school's Major Donor Dinner. It was going great until the entire house lost power and we ended up cleaning in the dark and with no AC. You guessed it. More sweat. Good thing I've kept that emergecny flashlight in my car for years. It finally came in handy! Now if only I could get the chance to use that ice scraper that's been sitting under my seat since high school..

Today I wrapped up the weekend with a little Book Club action. I hosted this month, so we all met at my place and discussed my book pick - The Pact, by Jodi Picolut. We dined on spinach dip and strawberries while discussing our theme of the afternoon - murder or suicide?!

First Kick

Well Kristen inspired me to start a blog! Really I just want to be able to comment on hers and not be anonymous, but I'm sure I'll post on here sometime too. In the meantime, here's a picture from our FABULOUS trip to Vegas with the girls. That's the kidnapper van in back, totally blocking our view of Paris.
